Family Kitchen with a Fluted Island

A kitchen designed for close family, developed from the plans of their new house. It sits in an open-plan living and dining space under a vaulted ceiling, so the palette stays pale and the gable window leads: a long sink run under the window, a bank of tall units on the side wall, and an island parallel to the sink run, facing the living room.

The island carries the hob and two rows of drawers on the cooking side. On the living-room side its worktop overhangs by 28 cm for two stools, and the front is fluted, washed by an LED strip under the overhang. The tall wall holds the oven at eye level, a full-height pantry and the fridge-freezer, and ends in a bottle cabinet only 15 cm wide whose glass face looks into the living room. A matching glass cabinet for wine glasses stands at the other end of the sink run.

The fronts are handleless, with grip channels, under a slim wood-look worktop that matches the floating shelves, and the floor is a wood chevron. The evening view adds two small pendants either side of the window and shows the LED lines in the cabinets and under the island taking over after dark.
