UI Art Direction for Battle Tanks

UI art direction for Wargaming’s Battle Tanks, where I was Senior UI Artist for most of the project. The tank models and game environments were created by the Wargaming Helsinki art team; the portrait screens here show the interface around them: shop, factory (experimentation), missions, garage and battle HUD.

The look is rough and hand-cut. Cream cards with torn, angled corners sit on a slate-blue background, headings are in a heavy italic face, and each screen has its own drawn icon: a shop banner, a drafting compass, a mission clipboard, a tank. Colour does the sorting: lime green for buy and build buttons and gem prices, blue for the second currency and build timers, purple and tan cards to set tanks apart, and a yellow MAX bar for a fully upgraded tank.

In battle the HUD keeps to the edges: health and ammunition counters and a three-star progress bar along the top, four ability buttons and a segmented bar along the bottom, leaving the middle of the screen to the map. I designed the screens in Photoshop, the programming team built them into the game, and the game launched with this UI.
