Nook Specialty Coffee Website
A one-page website for Nook Specialty Coffee, a small café on Station Parade in Wanstead, East London. Instead of a template and stock photos, the page is set inside the café: cream plaster, sage wooden panelling, a green pendant lamp and trailing pothos in late sunlight, the same palette as the café’s own walls.
The menu is the centre of the page. It hangs on the panelling as three cream boards, with the drinks and their prices taken from the café’s printed menu. Dishes that have a photo on Nook’s Instagram carry a small camera mark: hover over one and a polaroid of it appears beside the pointer, tap it and the photo opens in a viewer. The same polaroids, captioned in a handwritten face, carry the café’s own photos through the rest of the page, and the logo was retraced as smooth vector paths, down to the coffee-bean o’s.
Each screen size gets its own composition instead of a stretched one. Desktops show the whole room, tablets show its full width, and phones get a portrait version of the wall with the lamp and plant pinned to the top corners, so the heading stays clear; landscape phones still fit the heading and both buttons on the first screen. The site is plain HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript, about 1 MB in total with the menu photos loading only when asked for, and it respects reduced-motion settings. Opening hours link to Google rather than being copied, because the public listings disagree.
